Why Monitoring User-Generated Content Is Important

Content marketing programs include more than just the content you create. It’s bigger than that and involves more opinions than just what you envision as your brand. It involves user-generated content too.

Any company today has an online presence, whether they want it or not. This is because of user-generated content, information generated by people other than your company. This content can present itself as reviews, comments and discussions online, and those which appear on social media.
But why should you care about this? Better yet, why should you actively track it?

What’s significant about user-generated content?

Monitoring user-generated content is incredibly important for several reasons:

  1. It helps identify things that your prospective and existing customers like about your company. This feedback about your approach, products and services is imperative to help you improve your company and solutions. If you listen to those users, you can better align your offerings with the needs of your target audience.
  2. Similar to above, user-generated content is a great source of ideas for new products and services. With it, you hear about people’s pain points and discover how they view you and your competition. Thus, you can use that information to formulate an approach to your existing services and offer new solutions. More specifically, it can help you in areas that you least expect.
  3. As more people talk about your company, your brand value will improve, and you will become better known. Companies that have more brand recognition just by their nature tend to have more revenue, more customers and more customer loyalty. So being able to monitor that information, to see how you’re doing with your brand, is very important.

Bonus: Another advantage of user-generated content is recruitment. If your company has a good brand and people are talking about you in a positive light, it’s going to be easier for you to recruit top-quality talent and retain the people who you have.

In summary

We live in a brutally transparent era where everything that a company does well, badly or otherwise is in the public view. Companies must recognize that this is the reality. They need to face it and incorporate better components like user-generated content into their overall marketing, service delivery and company strategy.
